"Getting Ready for Class" Info
Thank you for registering for Obedience with CityCanine! We're
looking forward to a fun and productive class...here's the info
you need to get started:
- Bring your dog on a well-fitting collar and leash! Have the leash on before you get out of your car! Do not expect to put the leash on *after* the dog gets out of the car!
Bring *a lot* of *good* treats! A good treat is moist, meaty, able to be broken into bits of various sizes, and most of all - is very, very attractive to your dog! For classes taught at mid-day, your dog should get a very light, or no, breakfast. For classes taught in the late afternoon or evening, wait to feed your dog its dinner until you return home after class.
- Remember: the balance of your class fees is due on the first day of class...we will be accepting checks or cash, no debit or credit cards.
- NOTE #1: This is an outdoors class taught in a park-like setting!
Bring water dishes for your dog - we will have running water
available. Also remember to dress appropriately! There are ants
(some, we're not overrun with them, but it is Houston)! And other
creepy-crawly things on the ground! Closed-toed shoes, jeans, weather-appropriate gear
are good ideas!
- NOTE #2: For the Level I Obedience Class, we intend to provide you with appropriate training
equipment (including a leash), for the first day with dogs, you need to bring them on leash and collar and under control. Also, bring poop bags - it's the Canine Good Citizen
way to be. For the Level II Obedience Class, we expect you to arrive with your dog on a secure collar, a 5-6 ft. leash, plus something to hold treats (fanny pack, etc.). If you dog works best for a toy, bring that toy. Retractable leashes are not acceptable.
- NOTE #3: CityCanine does not allow children under 13 to take the leash in
a training class without prior approval. If you need to bring your kids with you,
please be aware that there is no "playground" here for their entertainment, nor is
there a "babysitter" on our staff. That means, therefore, that it is your responsibility to
ensure your children are safe, unobtrusive (meaning, they are not throwing rocks, fighting with other kids, etc...), and well-behaved. We do have picnic tables
in view of the training area, tables at which you can set your kids up with whatever form
of entertainment you provide for them...coloring books, ipods, etc., etc. (We really do like
kids, *really* -but we have to ensure our primary purpose, dog training, is taken care of!)
- NOTE #5: What you need to bring: a copy of your dog's current shot record for
us to keep on file. Your dog must be current on (depending on age)rabies, parvo, and distemper.
- NOTE #6: Where we meet : CityCanine, 6204 Saxon,
77092. Take 290 outbound.
At about the third exit on the outbound side, you'll
find 43rd street. Take this exit, then make the U-turn
and head back inbound on the service road. Continue about a quarter
to a half a mile down the service road,
until you come to a small street
named Saxon. Turn right on Saxon and
go down about a block or two; we
are located on the right at 6204 Saxon,
zip code 77092.
-NOTE #7: Parking...we have limited parking available on-property. Our neighbor,
Jerico Constructors, has generously allowed us to park
next door in their spaces, with one caveat: none of their gates can be
blocked. So, as you park Saturday morning, ask yourself before
you get out of your car - "am I parked in front of a gate?" If you
are,
you have to move!
If you have any questions, please call either of the numbers listed below. ***This is particularly true if weather is
threatening.!!!***
